Saint-Rémy-de-Provence is one of the most charming little towns of Provence. Made famous by Van Gogh who spent one year resting there and making the surroundings famous, the place is also known for its nice streets flanked with lovely shops, in particular food shops.
Indeed, Saint-Rémy is home of the Maison Lillamand making the finest candied fruits, calissons. The Joel Durand chocolaterie is another institution where you can taste delicate chocolates.
The village also welcomes a huge market on Wednesday morning where you'll be able to taste all the local specialties such as cheese, olive specialties, jams, local cherries and strawberries and other fresh fruits and vegetable.
Besides food specialties, the market is a great place for shopping: tablecloths, Provencal fabrics, soap, scarves, potteries, cooking tools, baskets, you'll find everything.
Getting some food at the market to have a picnic lunch among the olive trees afterwards is a must. On the other side of the mountain range, the Vallée des Baux houses many olive oil farms. Your guide will stop in one of them to taste the best olive oil of Provence.
You'll be amazed by the flavors coming from the different blends and making process.
A wine tasting can be added to this perfect day in Provence. There are a few wineries in the valley producing very good wines.
Possible visit to a goat cheese farm. Goat cheese is one of the Provencal specialties and there area many goat farms all over making it.
Optional and time permitting, you will also discover the fascinating village of les Baux-de Provence
