You'll start the day in the often unknown but wonderful, picturesque city of Marseilles, settled in a sumptuous spot on the shore of the Mediterranean. Discover the highlights: the Old Port, heart of the city and a beautiful spectacle with thousands of sailboats, the recently built MUCEM Museum, designed by the local architect Rudy Ricciotti, and the Saint John Fortress.
Visit Saint-Victor Abbey, a major site for the first Christians of Marseilles, the hilltop church of Notre Dame de la Garde that offers the most amazing viewpoint and the road along the sea.
You will spend the rest of the day in the little fishing port Cassis, nested between high cliffs, sea and vineyards.
The town is very famous for its location and its excellent white wine (which marvelously enhances Provencal food like bouillabaisse) produced in the 12 estates of the area.
Cassis is also known for the Calanques that are like little fjords with high limestone cliffs, a paradise for hiking, rock climbing, swimming, diving, and kayaking. If it is not too windy, we highly recommend the 45-minute boat trip to see 3 Calanques.
You will end up on the top of Cap Canaille, one of the highest seaside cliffs in Europe with outstanding views of the Med and the Provencal countryside.
On request: Wine tasting
