A very well balanced itinerary allowing you to hit one of the most significant cities of Provence and see outstanding sceneries in Cassis.
Aix being the former capital of Provence is a place not to miss to understand the history of the area that was once an independant county. The honey-colored facades of the old buildings, the lively streets, majestic avenues flanked by plane trees, the fountains are many reasons making this trip to Aix worthwhile.
Visiting on a market day will enhance your experience, for sure, and show you the Provencal lifestyle, allowing you to sample food specialties and buy items made by local artisans such as olive wood bowls or kitchen tools, potteries, lavender sachets and pilows, etc.
Cassis is another gem of Provence. Framed by giant cliffs, the town has kept the features of a fishing port with traditional wooden boats and colorful mediterranean houses. Cassis is one of the places from where you can explore the Calanques National Park, on foot or by boat.
We always recommend our guests to take a 45 minute boat ride to discover the high limestone cliffs surrounding the numerous inlets between Cassis and Marseille and enjoy the view of the red cliff of Cap Canaille from the sea before or after tasting the delicate white wine produced from the terraced vineyards that also make the beauty of the site.
