Marseille is a very interesting port of call. The town is centrally located in Provence and will allow you to discover the different facets of the region.
The city of Marseille itself is remarkable and there are many places of interest to visit from the Old Port to the famous basilica of Notre Dame de la Garde. A driving tour to see the highlights of the city is really worthwhile.
Not far from Marseille, Cassis and the Calanques National Park (rocky inlets) will be a perfect place to end the day.
From Marseille there are many other possibilities of nice day trips:
– The attractive town of Aix-en-Provence, home of the painter Cezanne and the Mount Sainte-Victoire, one of his favorite subjects.
– Avignon is another interesting option: The capital of Christendom in the 14th century still has incredible gems like the Papal Palace and the bridge above the Rhône River. The medieval wall surrounding the city that is still standing in the 21st century giving the town a lot of character.
– The rocky nave of Les Baux-de-Provence, stunning hilltop village in the mountain range of les Alpilles and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, where you can walk in Van Gogh’s footsteps is a trip of great interest.
– Then there is the mountain range of Luberon and its outstanding hilltop villages. It’s difficult to make a choice between all of them because each one is interesting for a particular feature and works differently with the personality of each traveler. You can find yours: Gordes, Roussillon, Bonnieux, Lourmarin, Lacoste are places to dream about. Once in the area, your tour guide will help you understand the history of the place and you will fall in love with the Luberon.
