Private tour of Marseille

More about Provence

Marseille is definitely a place where you’ll enhance your experience when hiring a private tour guide

The city is not the easiest to discover on your own but it really worth a visit. First of all, for of all the gems you can find all over the town like the Abbey of Saint Victor, the Basilica of Notre Dame de la Garde, the Old Port, but not only…

The town has changed. Marseille was the European Capital of Culture in 2013. This gave a great impulsion to the city. Many cultural events were held.

New developments in Marseille of great interest took shape in particular many new buildings designed by famous architects such as Rudy Ricciotti, who designed the MUCEM, Museum focusing on European and Mediterranean civilizations – Musée des civilisations de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée – new signal at the entrance of the Old Port – Vieux Port – of Marseille. The concrete lattice of the building is extremely spectacular. Just in front, Stefano Boeri built the very spectacular Villa Méditerranée, a convention center. These two new landmarks added a lot of character to the already spectacular entrance of the port and to the town. The two buildings are “chatting” together in a very pleasant way and exchanching with old monuments like the Fort Saint-Jean, the Saint-Laurent Church or the Notre Dame de la Major Cathedral of Marseille, as well in great harmony.

The suroundings of the Old port were given back to pedestrians, and redesigned by Norman Foster and Desvignes. The CMA CGM tower – 147 meters –  by Zaha Hadid is also a remarkable construction, like a big sail connecting the Mediterranean and the city. It is now facing the one buit by Jean Nouvel called “la Marseillaise“, 140 meters.

Nearby Kengo Kuma buil the FRAC of Marseille, dedicated to contemporary art. The facade made of more than 1500 glass components is another outstanding architecture.

A lot is still going on, so come an visit Marseille with no hesitation!
