Private tours in Provence

The high season is now over in our beautiful region, but as mentioned in the article « A year in Provence », taking a private tour in Provence is worthwhile year round! From October to May it is slowly becoming quieter, so it is a perfect time for those who want to enjoy a wonderful guided tour of Provence without the crowds!

Summer was busy this year, lots of shore excursions from Marseille and Toulon but we also operated many tours from Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, Arles, Luberon as our guests rented houses or stayed in hotels in theses areas.

A city tour of Marseille was a must do this year, as the city was widely transformed last year when Marseille was the 2013 European Capital of Culture! A walk around the Old Port is really enjoyable now: much more space is dedicated to pedestrians, new art enlights the quays with the « Mirror roof », a high mirror-like roof buit by the famous English architect Norman Foster, that shelters the « Marseillais » from the warm sun during the summer and allows visitors to have a truly unique and awesome artistic experience. Also, the Saint John’s fort is now open to the public: stroll around the fortress and get an amazing view of the harbor from the top of the King René’s tower from the terrace of the recently built MUCEM Museum dedicated to European and Mediterranean civilizations. It became, since its inauguration, one of the most important museums of Provence and a new landmark in the city for sure. 2014 also brought changes in this part of the city with many food specialties and nice restaurants in the Voûtes de la Major and a huge new shopping mall called les Terrasses du Port. From the roof of this building you feel like if you were on a cruise ship and have a wonderful panoramic view on the port of Marseille, islands, Chateau d’If.

Of course, a city tour of Marseille also includes the unmissable Basilica Notre Dame de la Garde dominating Marseille on the top of its hill, but also the ride along the sea on the « Corniche Kennedy », and many other treasures your private guide in Provence will show you!

A guided tour of Avignon is a perfect choice to visit the Pope’s Palace and its courtyard that hosts the most important part of the famous Theatre Festival of Avignon in July, to stroll around this UNESCO World Heritage medieval city surrounded by its 14th century walls, to walk on the Saint Benezet bridge made famous by the song…  A private tour from Avignon is also a great start to visit the Luberon area with Gordes, Roussillon, Ménerbes, Bonnieux, but also the Alpilles with Les Baux-de-Provence, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, have a Van Gogh tour, or to visit the Côtes du Rhône wine region with Châteauneuf-du-Pape in particular.

A private tour to Aix-en-Provence allows to discover the beloved city of Cézanne and visit his studio, walk in the charming streets surrounded by nice little shops, take pictures of the numerous fountains and squares that are all over the city, wander around the market, learn about the rich history of this former capital of Provence

So many great sites to visit that it is impossible to mention all of them in one article! When you decide to come to Provence, just contact us and we will give you all the options you can have for a memorable private tour in Provence with your guide!
